Information
This scholarship was created to allow a meaningful memorial for a treasured pet or pet lover. While flowers, cards and memorial benches can express our sentiments, the Buddy Scholarship provides a living memorial by supporting better care for our living pets through the training of animal care students, and the continuing education and certification of local dog care professionals.
Scholarship Qualifications:
- Eastham resident or ….
- Student of Eastham Schools or ….
- Studying in the field of pet care and services.
- Applicants should be prepared to provide a letter of recommendation
- Provide proof of enrollment in a school of higher learning or training program.
- Winner must be willing to allow use of their image, name, and educational plans in EDOA announcements of the scholarship award.

Donations are tax deductible. EDOA is a 501 (c) (3) charitable non-profit organization.

- Applicants must be members or graduates of Eastham schools, or live in Eastham or work in the local area which services Eastham dogs.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a program of education in the field of animal or pet care i.e. veterinary, animal training, biology.
The Buddy Scholarship for part-time training, continuing education, and certification programs
The Buddy Scholarship is not just for college students. It is also intended to help the local pet care community with grants for training, certification, and part-time continuing education. These may be supported in part or in full.
You may still use the form on the application page. In applying for a grant, information and procedure is a little different.
Deadline is March 31.
Information to be included in “School or Program at which you will be studying”:
- Organization running the program.
- Program title.
- Date and location of the program. (Note if it is on-line).
- Your current or prospective place of employment.
- Goal related to taking this program.
Distribution of the grant
- Once awarded the grant the funds will be held for you for as long as one year.
- Provide proof of payment.
- Provide proof of completion of the program.
FAQ:
If I am not currently employed in the field, or self-employed, can I still receive a grant?
Yes. The scholarship Committee will determine that eligibility. You are encouraged to apply.
What if I have already started the program?
Yes. As long as the program starts in the year of application, you are eligible.
Should I apply if the program or course does not start until the following year.
No, It must be started in the current year, and completed by March 31st of the following year.
Must the program be for dog care?
No. The scholarship is for those studying in the general field of animal care.
Can I still get the grant if my employer is paying for the program?
No. The scholarship is to help you cover your expenses. You will be asked for a receipt of payment before receiving the funds.
Am I eligible if I do not both live and work in Eastham?
Yes. You are eligible if you live in Eastham. You are eligible if you work in Eastham. You are eligible also if your work services dogs from Eastham.

- PayPal is used by EDOA for added security and to process credit cards. No card information is forwarded to EDOA except the payment amount.
- New memorials and messages may take up to 48 ours to be posted.
- A donation is not required to send a memorial message. Simply close the “Donation” wizard without filling it in.
- 100% of all Buddy Scholarship donations goes to the students.
- This info goes to EDOA only for our internal records. This information is for inclusion on the “Memorials” page only and is not distributed to any other entity.
